The first International Alumni Meet of XJTU was conducted at the iHarbour Campus of Xi’an Jiaotong University on Friday, May 14th, 2021. The event was organized by School of International Education (SIE) to celebrate the 125thanniversary of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) and the 15thanniversary of School of International Education (SIE). Three international alumni currently working in China were invited to share their experience in studying and career.
The event started with a greeting video by a dozen of international alumni worldwide, followed by a welcome speech from Ms. Lan Xueping, Dean assistant of SIE and the Director of International Students Affairs Office. She extended a warm welcome to the alumni’s return and expressed her good wishes for their career developments. Then three alumni guest speakers, including Prof. Riaz Ahmad from Yibin University, Mr. Lima Marcal, Network Proposal Manager at Siemens Transformers Co.Ltd, and Mr. Mostafa, Ph.D. candidate at USTC, were invited to share their valuable experience in studying at XJTU and to provide suggestions to current graduate students in the pursuit of job hunting. The guest speakers also entertained various questions asked by the audience. The SIE staff members and approximately one hundred graduate students from different departments attended the event.
In the final section of the event, the alumni speakers were honored with guest certificates, and all the alumni ambassadors on campus were given International Alumni Ambassador certificates for their contribution in connecting the international alumni with our Alma Mater. The program was concluded by the final remarks from the program host, Mr. Emeka, followed by a group photo including all the guests, SIE instructors, organizing committee members, and audience.
Over time along with domestic alumni, international alumni are also expanding, demanding to develop a strong bond between the institute and alumni which will benefit both ways. The International Alumni Meet event aims to foster an awareness of community among international alumni and support a sense of connectivity back to XJTU. At the same time, the first International Alumni Meet event of XJTU bridges the gap between academic and career life. The fresher graduates are made proactive to face the current challenges of the competitive professional world. It is believed that the arrangement of these events will help both the ends work side by side to assist each other in achieving the common goals. SIE and the international alumni association will spare no effort to continue arranging various events in the future.
