I. PROGRAM INTRODUCTION

Course level:Starter, Intermediate, Junior, Senior

(The university will organize placement test after enrollment and guide the students to choose the corresponding course.)

Duration:1 semester, 1 year

Opening time:March in spring semester/September in autumn semester

Main courses

Compulsory Course:Chinese Listening, Oral Chinese, Chinese Reading, Chinese Writing

Selective Course:Taiji, Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, Chinese Folk Song, Chinese Papercut, Chinese Cuisine, etc.

Fee Structure

Application fee: 500 yuan RMB. (NOT refundable)

Tuition fee: 1 semester: 8,000 RMB; 1 year: 15,000 RMB.

Insurance fee: 800 RMB/year.

Accommodation fee: from 10000 RMB to 17000RMB per half year;from 18000 RMB to 25000 RMB per year, the price varies with the room type you choose.

Features of the project

Small class teaching: no more than 25 students in each class

Certificate of completion: A formal transcript and certificate of completion will be issued to students who have successfully completed their courses.

Training objectives: to train foreign students to have an international perspective, to train their language application ability and cross-cultural communication ability, and to improve their Chinese literacy, cultural literacy and professional literacy.

II. TIME AND ELIGIBILITY

Application time

Applications can be accepted throughout the year. However, due to the limitation of the number of language teachers, it is recommended to complete the application from November 15th to January 30th of the following year(Spring Entry Semester) or from March 1st to June 30th (Autumn Entry Semester) .

1) Above 18 years old, under 45 years old, in good health condition;

2) In possession of valid foreign ordinary passport

Payment of registration fee:500 RMB

IV. APPLICATION PROCEDURES

1. Register and login online application system:http://isso.xjtu.edu.cn/recruit/login

2. Upload scanned application documents to the online application system

3. Pay the application fee and tuition fee according to the notice. Pre-admitted students need to log in to the application system within the time specified to pay tuition fees in advance. If online payment is not available, the tuition fee should be transferred to the bank account of our university according to application notice, and the scanned remittance receipt should be uploaded to the system. Those who fail to pay the tuition fee in advance within the specified time will be disqualified.

4. Application completes after receiving tuition fees successfully and university will issue admission documents.

V. COURSE CONTENT

There are two types of course in the program, which are Compulsory courses and Elective courses. Compulsory courses include Intensive Chinese Reading, Spoken Chinese, Chinese Listening, Chinese Reading and Chinese Writing. Elective courses include Chinese Character Writing, Chinese Orthography, Calligraphy, Chinese Painting, Paper-Cutting Art, Chinese Folk Songs, Tai Ji and so on. The courses for international undergraduate programs in Chinese Language are also open to students of this program, such as Business Chinese, Chinese Poetry, Ancient Literature, Modern and Contemporary Literature, History and Development of Chinese Characters, Appreciation of Film and Television, and Selection of Idioms. Moreover, we provide some long-distance live or recorded Chinese courses for students. In addition, students will be organized to carry out various language and cultural practice activities in Xi’an every semester.

Basic 2(Class II)

Understanding the meaning and being able to write 500-800 words. Able to complete basic communication about life, study and work in Chinese.

The comprehensive ability of Chinese has reached or exceeded HSK Level 3.

20 Teaching Hours per week

Intermediate 1(Class III)

Understanding the meaning and being able to write 800-1200 words. Able to talk about a wide range of topics in Chinese and able to communication with native speakers fairly fluently.

The comprehensive ability of Chinese has exceeded HSK Level 3 or reached Level 4.

20 Teaching Hours per week

Intermediate 2(Class IV)

Understanding the meaning and being able to write 1200-2000 words. Able to talk deeply about a wide range of topics in Chinese, and communication quite fluently with native speakers.

The comprehensive ability of Chinese has exceeded HSK Level 4 or reached Level 5.

20 Teaching Hours per week

Advanced(Class V)

Understanding the meaning and being able to write 2000-3500 words; Able to read Chinese newspapers and magazines, enjoy Chinese movies and TV programs, and talk fluently with native speakers or express opinions in Chinese.

The comprehensive ability of Chinese has reached or exceeded HSK Level 5

VII.ASSESSMENT

The course evaluation will include written test or written and oral test. Total grade = 50% of usual grade+40% of final grade+10% of attendance and classroom performance.
